10 years ago, I was sitting in my midwife’s office when she first told me about HypnoBirthing. I had already signed up for a Bradley class because that was what I knew outside of Lamaze (rather what I remember fro nursing school). I had never heard of HypnoBirthing up until this point. I knew I wanted a natural birth after witnessing trauma in labor and delivery during nursing school. I researched. I watched videos. I was sold. My husband…..well he was thrilled with a 5 week course compared to a 12 week course. Thus began my journey of HypnoBirthing. Thank you Karen King, CNM!
Fast forward to now and I have been teaching HypnoBirthing for six years. I have had three incredible HypnoBirthing births and attended over 100 births as a HypnoBirthing doula (currently on hold with doula work.)
Monday, June 17, 2019 our dear founder, and supporter of calm birth, Mickey Mongan passed away peacefully. There are tears and grief, but also so much joy and gratitude for her. So much gratitude to the vision and dream she set out to make a reality. “My dream is that every woman everywhere will know the joy of a truly safe, comfortable, and satisfying birthing for herself and her baby.” Each year HypnoBirthing has grown around the world as not just a philosophy and technique, but a family. When you meet another HypnoBirthing mom you feel connected, like you know that they know you already. You feel safe around them. It is an amazing community that began with Mickey.
Dearest Mickey, you will be missed. So much of you will live on through your dream that you began for us through HypnoBirthing. Many will continue that dream for you. Mothers around the world will continue that dream for you. Their babies will continue that dream for you. Their witnesses of birth will continue that dream for you. Your voice will continue to be heard globally through your recordings. Your book will continue to be read in various languages around the world. We, the instructors, will share that dream with families every year. Thank you for your generous compassion, love, and support for every mother everywhere. You have touched thousands of hearts. You will continue on in my heart and you will still reverberate your voice as your dream reaches new heights to every woman. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
